Combine the first 8 ingredients (cherries through sugar) in a large non-reactive saucepan. Over medium heat, bring mixture to a slow simmer and cook for about 15 minutes, or until the fruit is tender, but still chewy. Remove from heat and allow the fruit compote to cool slightly. Place in a container and refrigerate for a day to allow flavors to mature. (Chilled mixture will keep up to one month.)
To serve, place 1 tbsp berry compote and a small slice of Brie cheese onto a small plate. Drizzle with some of the syrup from the fruit compote.
