Salt is actually neither a spice nor a herb (but we are lenient with those terms, so humor us), it's a naturally-occurring mineral that is harvested in blocks, then cleaned and processed. The properties of salt can vary dramatically according to where it comes from as it absorbs the properties of the soil, sea and air where it's harvested from. Thus you have salts of a myriad different colors, even pink!
